Most “AI marketing platform” pricing is built for agencies and in-house teams. For a small business the workable stack is smaller and cheaper than the category suggests: one design tool, one assistant, and one tool for whichever channel actually brings you customers. Buying a fourth thing is usually how the budget disappears.
A sensible starting stack
Design and social: Canva Pro, $144 a year for one person. You probably already use it.
Copy and planning: a general assistant at $17–$20 a month. See our writing tools comparison for why this beats a dedicated writing tool.
If organic search matters: Surfer Discovery at $49 a month, or the cheaper options in our SEO tools round-up.
If leads come from forms or calls: Typeform or Close CRM — both reviewed with full pricing.
Verified pricing, September 2026
| Tool | What it is for | Free tier | Entry paid plan | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Canva | Design, social, presentations | Yes up to 20 AI uses | Pro $144/yr one person | AI is metered separately from design. Pro is “10x more AI than Free”, with an AI Pass add-on beyond that. |
| Surfer SEO | Content optimisation | None | $49/mo Discovery 120 documents, 10 tracked pages | The $99 Standard tier is where team seats and AI prompt tracking begin. |
| Jasper | Brand-consistent copy | None 7-day trial | $69/mo per seat $59/mo billed annually | Worth it only when several people must write in one voice. |
| Copy.ai | Copy, then workflows | None | $29/mo Chat $24/mo annually, 5 seats | Nothing published between the chat plan and a quote-only enterprise contract. The $1,000/mo Growth tier has come off the pricing page; do not plan to grow into a price you cannot see. |
| Writesonic | AI search visibility | None | $79/mo Starter | No longer a writing tool. You are buying prompt tracking and site audits. |
| AdCreative.ai | Ad creative generation | None free trial only | $39/mo Starter $20/mo billed yearly, 10 credits/mo | Sold in credits, not generations: 10 a month on Starter, 50 on Pro at $249/mo ($125 yearly). The /pricing URL still 404s — the live prices are in the pricing section of the home page. |

Three budget traps
1. AI credits are not the same as the product. Canva Pro is $144 a year for design; the AI inside it is metered on top, and heavy generation pushes you towards the AI Pass add-on. Budget the subscription and the usage separately.
2. Some ladders have a missing rung. Copy.ai publishes one self-serve plan at $29 a month and then stops; the next step is a sales call, and the $1,000/mo tier it used to list is no longer shown at all. If you pick a tool expecting to upgrade as you grow, check that the next tier exists at a price you can actually see.
3. “AI marketing” increasingly means AI search visibility. Several tools in this category have quietly become services that tell you whether ChatGPT and Gemini mention your brand. That may be valuable, but it is not copywriting, and it is priced differently.
What to buy first
| If your customers come from… | Buy this first | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Social and word of mouth | Canva Pro | $144/yr |
| Google search | Surfer Discovery, or Frase Starter | $39–$49/mo |
| Enquiry forms | Typeform Visit site | see review |
| Phone and outbound | Close CRM | see review |
| A team that must sound consistent | Jasper Pro | $59/seat/mo annual |
The bottom line
A small business does not need an AI marketing platform. It needs a design tool it already knows, an assistant to draft with, and one tool pointed at the channel that actually produces customers. That stack runs about $35 a month plus Canva’s annual fee. Everything above it on this page is priced for someone with a marketing team, and buying it early is the most common way small businesses waste money on AI.
