Best AI Video Tools for Creators

These six tools get grouped together and they should not be. They do four different jobs, and the one thing they have in common is that the entry plan buys you far less video than the price implies. On Runway Standard, $15 a month is 52 seconds of the flagship model. On Lumen5 Basic, $19 a month is twelve animation minutes — a year.

Three things the pricing pages do not make obvious

0. Runway now runs inside Premiere Pro and After Effects. Added on 8 September 2026 for paid plans, the panel generates images and video with Runway’s full model lineup and restyles footage already on your timeline, placing results straight into your sequence. If you already edit in Adobe, that removes the export-and-reimport round trip that made generative clips awkward to use in real projects. Runway also added a self-serve Team plan on 4 September: every seat contributes 6,900 credits a month to one shared pool, for up to nine people with 1TB of storage.

1. Generative video is sold by the second, not the month. Runway Standard’s 625 credits are 52 seconds of Gen-4.5. If you are cutting a two-minute piece with several takes, you will burn a month’s allowance in an afternoon. Price the work in seconds of finished output before you pick a tier.

2. “Unlimited” and “AI” are separate budgets. Both Lumen5 and Pictory sell an unlimited-feeling core product — stock footage assembled to your script — alongside a small, separately metered generative allowance. Lumen5 Basic gives twelve animation minutes a year. That is not a typo.

3. Synthesia’s first paid plan does not raise your output. Free and Starter both give ten minutes of video a month. The $29 removes the logo and opens the avatar library. If you need more minutes, the jump is to Creator at $89.

Which one for which job

The bottom line

Pick by job, not by price. If your videos are made of stock footage and a voiceover, Lumen5 or Pictory will cost you less than $25 a month and produce as much as you can write. If you need generated footage, Runway is the tool, but budget it in seconds and expect to sit on Pro at $28 rather than Standard. And if you already film yourself, none of the generative tools replaces an editor — that is Descript, and it is the cheapest line item here.
