Fireflies has spent years as the bot that quietly sits in your meetings and writes the notes. On 2 September 2026 it started doing something considerably more consequential: making and taking calls itself. Voice Agents are AI callers that run screening interviews, sales discovery and inbound qualification, then hand you a transcript, a summary and a scorecard. This is a bigger change than it first looks, and it comes with a compliance question most launch coverage skipped.

The short version

What it is: AI agents that hold two-way phone conversations — inbound qualification, outbound screening, research interviews — available 24/7 from a shared link.

Scale claimed at launch: 40,000+ conversations across 2,100 organisations in 97 countries.

Languages: 70+, with configurable voice gender, accent and tone, and voice cloning Fireflies says takes about 30 seconds to set up.

The catch: if you screen job candidates in the EU, you are in regulated territory. Details below.

How Voice Agents actually work

Setup is four steps by Fireflies’ own description: turn the agent on, connect a knowledge base so it knows your product or role, share a link, and let it take calls without anyone scheduling them. The conversation is meant to be two-way rather than a script read aloud — the agent asks follow-ups based on what the person says.

Afterwards you get the part Fireflies was always good at: the call is recorded, transcribed and summarised, you can query it with AskFred, and the output can be pushed into your ATS or CRM. Custom scorecards are generated automatically after screening calls, which is what makes this useful at volume rather than just a novelty.

What it costs

Voice Agents are listed from the Pro plan upward, and calls draw on usage-based credits rather than being unlimited. Fireflies does not publish a per-minute or per-call rate on its pricing page, so budget with a pilot rather than a spreadsheet.

PlanMonthlyAnnual (per month)StorageAI credits
Free$0$0400 minutes per team20
Pro$18 per seat$10 per seat8,000 minutes per seat20
Business$29 per seat$19 per seatUnlimited30
Enterprise$39 per seat$39 per seatUnlimited50

Transcription itself is unlimited on every plan including Free — storage is the real limit, and the jump from 400 minutes for a whole team to 8,000 minutes per seat is what most people upgrade for. Current plans are on the Fireflies pricing page.

The part to read before you screen candidates in the EU

Using an AI agent to interview job applicants is not the same as using one to qualify sales leads, and European rules already reflect that. Reporting on the launch set out three obligations worth knowing:

  • Disclosure at first contact. Under the EU AI Act’s transparency rules, in force since 2 August 2026, people must be told clearly that they are dealing with an AI system — at the first interaction, not buried in a follow-up email.
  • Recruitment is high-risk. Systems used for recruitment and candidate evaluation fall under Annex III of the AI Act, with those compliance obligations applying from 2 December 2027.
  • Automated decisions. GDPR Article 22 governs decisions made solely by automated means, which is why the human-in-the-loop step matters.

Fireflies positions the agents as pre-qualification, with a human recruiter making the actual decision. That framing is the thing regulators will test, and it puts the responsibility on you to keep a person in the loop and to disclose properly. We are not lawyers and this is not legal advice — if you are screening candidates in the EU or UK, get your process checked before you scale it.

None of this applies to using an agent to qualify inbound sales enquiries, which is the lower-risk way to trial the feature.

Also worth knowing

  • Security posture: SOC 2 Type II and GDPR, with HIPAA and a BAA on the enterprise tier. Fireflies states it does not train AI models on your meetings.
  • India pricing signalled: in late August the company said it plans India-specific pricing for SMEs and mid-market customers, plus Indian language support. No figures or dates yet, so treat it as intent rather than a plan you can buy.
  • No public changelog. Fireflies posts product news to a members-only community, which is why updates like this tend to surface through coverage rather than a release page.

The verdict

For sales teams, this is a straightforward win: an agent that answers inbound calls at 2am and hands over a qualified, transcribed conversation is worth the credits. For recruiting, the technology is ready before the governance is — the feature works, but the compliance work around it is yours to do, and the deadlines are already on the calendar.

If you already use Fireflies for meeting notes, Voice Agents need no new tool: they land in the same workspace. You can start on the free plan and read our Fireflies.ai review for how the core product handles storage limits.
